PORTFOLIO 2010/Part 3
Above: Dre village suffered extensive minelaying inside the habitable area and on all sides, leading to several human accidents. NPA cleared several tasks including the Sweraw minefield to which this woman is pointing, where 115 antipersonnel mines and 83 UXO were removed. Now the land is used for chickpea cash crops - vital income to this low-income rural community.
Below: In 2005 NPA cleared the ground on which the Dashtitlie School in Mawat was built. Almost every family in this village – of which there are more than 50 - had a landmine victim.  Dashtitlie is a harrowing example of the residual effects of war. Many hazards, including hard-to-detect landmines, were removed, making a safe area for children to learn and play.
