KLKASHENKA MINEFIELD, MAWAT:The picture to the right was taken standing on a major road connecting the regions of Sherbazher and Qaladiza. It is the route to the scenic Dokan lake, visited by tens of thousands of picnicking Kurds yearly. The area to the left was cleared by MIR and is now a wheat field. The area to the right – notably disused in contrast to the fields to the left - is a future task: MIR anticipates that using Land Release methods, only 20% of the area requires full clearance. This represents a significant time and cost saving compared to clearing the entire suspected area, most of which is not mined. After clearance, the land will be used for wheat fields or samaq orchards.  It will be safer for workers of planned road widening, and the countless transient people on the route.
